What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback, also called EEG biofeedback, is a cutting-edge method that helps the brain work better. This technique has been used successfully around the world for over 40 years.

It is a safe approach that does not involve any medical procedures and shows significant improvements in a wide range of symptoms. Studies have shown that neurofeedback is effective for both children and adults dealing with different challenges, including ADHD, anxiety, and more.

How Does Neurofeedback
Work?

Neurofeedback helps the brain improve by teaching it how to function better. It uses sensors placed on the scalp to measure brain activity. These sensors show what is happening in the brain in real-time. The information is displayed through a fun game or interactive activity. As the brain's activity changes, the game responds, giving instant feedback through sounds, pictures, or vibrations.

This process allows the brain to adjust itself over time, leading to better focus, calmer feelings, and improved overall function. It is a completely safe method, with no medical procedures involved, and has helped many children and adults overcome challenges like ADHD and anxiety.

What Can Neurofeedback Help With?

Neurofeedback is a powerful tool that can improve brain function and, in many cases, reduce or even eliminate the need for medication. It helps the brain get back to its best performance, relieving symptoms and restoring balance.

This technique has been successfully used to help people with conditions like ADHD, anxiety, sleep problems, memory issues, PTSD, and concussions. Even healthy individuals use neurofeedback to sharpen their mental abilities, boost focus, and enhance creativity.

Neurofeedback can help with symptoms of the following conditions:

  • Academic Enhancement

  • ADHD

  • Anger

  • Anxiety Disorder

  • Sleep Disorders

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Conditions of Aging

  • Conduct Disorder

  • Depression

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Headaches & Migraines

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Typical Neurofeedback Plan

The Initial Intake Process

Your neurofeedback journey begins with a 1.5-hour intake session designed to explore and understand the specific challenges you or your child face in daily life. During this session, you will participate in a 25-minute computer-based assessment that evaluates 37 key areas of brain function. These include auditory and visual processing, memory, processing speed, stamina, comprehension, and fine motor coordination. The results help us identify potential areas of improvement and determine how neurofeedback can address specific processing challenges to support your goals.

The Neurofeedback Session Process

Neurofeedback sessions are typically 30 minutes long and held two to three times per week. Each session follows a structured process aimed at promoting optimal brain function:

1.  Monitoring Brain Waves
Using an EEG device, we monitor your brain’s electrical activity, known as brain waves. These waves are measured by their frequency (speed) and amplitude (height), giving us insight into your brain's current state.

2.  Feedback Through a Computer Interface
The brain wave data is processed and displayed in real time through engaging and interactive computer-based activities. These may include games, visual cues, or sounds that adjust dynamically in response to your brain activity, providing immediate feedback.

3.  Operant Conditioning

Through a process called operant conditioning, neurofeedback reinforces desired brain wave patterns. This approach helps train your brain to optimize its function, creating healthier and more balanced brain activity over time.

4.  Encouraging Neuroplasticity
Neurofeedback taps into the brain's natural ability to change and adapt, known as neuroplasticity. By practicing new brain wave patterns, the brain learns to develop healthier connections that support improved focus, relaxation, and emotional regulation.

5.  Targeting Specific Brain Waves
Each session is customized to your unique needs. For example, neurofeedback may help reduce excessive slow brain wave activity, often linked to inattention in individuals with ADHD. By guiding the brain toward more efficient wave patterns, neurofeedback can enhance focus, relaxation, and overall well-being.
